Tell us about you:
I wear many hats: author, editor, HIV Prevention Counselor, Toastmaster and sometimes comedian.
My day job is with a non-profit organization, Beautiful Gate Outreach Center (www.bgate.org). I’ve been a published author for over ten years, and I’ve edited/proofread manuscripts for nine. Comedy is a hobby that I get to indulge only rarely, but I’ve been blessed to work with such great talents as Pat G’orge-Walker and James “The Storyteller” Ford.
My church home is Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Wilmington, DE. Aside from membership in Toastmasters International (Greater Newark Area Toastmasters club), I’m also a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.
Tell us about your Home Again story:
My story is Family Matters, which is about the disconnected relationship between a mother and son. Erik is an only child, but thanks to his parents’ mentoring efforts, he has over a dozen play brothers and sisters. These young men and women needed someone to care about them, but so did Erik. His mother in particular devoted a lot of her time and energy to her mentees, and over the years, Erik came to resent his mother for this. Their relationship slowly disintegrated as a result. It reached the point where they barely spoke for nearly a year, but their rift is interrupted by a horrible accident. With Erik badly injured, both he and his mother contemplate the reasons for their estrangement and wonder how they can end it.
Do you have any other past, present, or future projects you'd like to promote?
I am the author of two novels, To Whom Much Is Given and All Things Work Together (sequel to To Whom). I also contributed to two other anthologies, Blessed Assurance (2003 from Literally Speaking Publishing) and The Soul Of A Man (2009 from Peace In The Storm Publishing).
My next project is a novel entitled Female Problems. It’s set to release in April 2011, and it will pick up the story I started in Family Matter with Erik as one of the main characters.
